Court Day
Early Mount Sterling was the trading center for a vast part of Eastern Kentucky. It was the site of several prominent hotels, taverns, and theaters, which served as meeting places, entertainment sites, and stagecoach stops and mail depositories for post riders.
Initiated in the 18th Century, Court Day quickly became the annual trading day for much of Eastern Kentucky. And it still is today. In the Fall when the air turns crisp is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of one of the earlier traditions - Court Day
.
Mount Sterling delights in this over 210+ year old tradition when approx. 130,000 people from all parts of the country gather for the four-day event.Held the third Monday, in October and the weekend prior. Specializing in many different arts and crafts, food and music, the people of Mount Sterling are eager to show their talents.
And Flat Stanley was there:
Flat Stanley's favorite new drink is sometime referred to as "Kentucky Swamp-Water"! The official name of the soft drink is Ale-8-One.
Ale-8-One soft drink has been bottled in Winchester since 1926 and is the only soft drink invented in Kentucky still in existence. Founder and inventor G. L. Wainscott began bottling soda water and several flavored drinks in a plant on North Main Street in Winchester, Kentucky, in May 1902. Experimenting with ginger-blended recipes acquired during extensive travels in Northern Europe, Wainscott developed the Ale-8-One formula. The product was launched July 13, 1926.
Flat Stanley was caught hitching a ride on the back of an Ale-8-One delivery truck.....
